What is a Hack-DesignFest?

At the Hack-DesignFest, currently enrolled U of T graduate and undergraduate students will come together for a day and a half, form small groups and collaborate to create an app, website, game or design/device for a good cause.


When is the Hack-DesignFest?

The 2014 Hack-DesignFest will officially take place from Tuesday February 18th at 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (groups will be allowed to continue hacking n' designing until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 18 - but there will be no more offiical activities after 5:00 p.m.) and continue from Wednesday February 19th at 9:00 a.m. until  12:00 p.m.  All hacking and designing must take place during those hours inside the MADLab at Gerstein Science Information Centre. As participants work in small groups, please only register for this event if you are able to attend both days.

Where is the Hack-DesignFest?

Hacking 'n designing will be done at the MADLab in the basement of Gerstein Science Information Centre at 9 King's College Circle Room B112 (1st level basement, south end of the building). Don't know where the MADLab is? Ask one of the staff at Gerstein when you get there.

What is the theme?

February is Children's Dental Health Month! For this Hack-DesignFest we are asking teams to make creations that help to address the promotion or education of children's dental health.

What can I make?

Any app, website, game or design/device that helps to promote or educate children on dental health.

Who can register?

Any current graduate or undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. You will need a valid TCard.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will want to bring a laptop and charger. You will be hacking n' designing at MADLab in the Gerstein Science Information Centre.  We will provide the space for you to work and food but you will need to bring the technology and any supplies that you will need to bring your creation to fruitation.

Do I need to sign up as a group?

No, during the first hour of the Hack-DesignFest you will mingle with other students, talk about your ideas and form groups  and then Hack n' Design the idea you decide upon.
